The Right Sector, and other militant street groups such as C-14 and the newly created National Corps, already pose a real and present danger to vulnerable groups of the population, such as gay and transgender people, women’s activists, Roma, as well as any dissidents who might, rightly or wrongly, be viewed as “pro-Russian.” Continue reading
An activist against fascism who sued a Ukrainian municipality for naming a street for a Nazi SS officer has come under a campaign of intimidation, he said.
Mikhail Voroniak, a Red Army veteran, in summer sued the western municipality of Kalush near Lviv for deciding to name a street for Dmytro Paliiv, a commander of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, also known as the 1st Galician.
Voroniak told the Russian news site Primechaniya that he has come under “aggressive pressures and threats of murder” since he sued. A local court last month dismissed his motion against the honor to Paliiv but Voroniak appealed to the Lviv Administrative Court of Appeals, which was scheduled to review the appeal last week. Despite sometimes open acknowledgement of its Nazism — its former commander once said the “historic mission” of Ukraine is to “lead the White Races of the world in a final crusade for their survival” in “a crusade against the Semite-led Untermenschen” — Azov was incorporated into the country’s National Guard in 2014, owing to its effectiveness in fighting Russian separatists. US arms have flowed to the militia, NATO and US military officials have been pictured meeting with them, and members of the militia have talked about their work with US trainers and the lack of background screening to weed out white supremacists….

“A number of prominent individuals among far-right extremist groups in the United States and Europe have actively sought out relationships with representatives of the far-right in Ukraine, specifically the National Corps and its associated militia, the Azov Regiment,” states a 2020 report from the West Point US Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Center. “US-based individuals have spoken or written about how the training available in Ukraine might assist them and others in their paramilitary-style activities at home.”
A 2018 FBI affidavit asserted that Azov “is believed to have participated in training and radicalizing United States–based white supremacy organizations,” including members of the white supremacist Rise Above Movement, prosecuted for planned assaults on counterprotesters at far-right events, including the Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally that Joe Biden later co-opted as a rationale for his presidential campaign.
…to stop what US hawks classify as the next Hitler and Nazi Germany, Washington has been backing literal neo-Nazi militias in Ukraine, who are in turn communicating with and training homegrown white supremacists, which Washington in turn is ramping up a menacing repressive bureaucracy at home to counter. The study’s conclusions appeared to tally with the United States Justice Department’s disclosure in 1983 that American intelligence agencies in Europe knowingly employed and protected former Nazis, including Klaus Barbie, the former Gastapo chief of Lyons, recently convicted of war crimes in a French court. The United States investigation showed that American officials assisted some of the former Nazis in acquiring new identities that made it possible for them to leave Europe and settle elsewhere, notably in South America….
Some of the censorship involved passages dealing with two former prime ministers, Louis St. Laurent and Pierre Trudeau.
Mr. St. Laurent is depicted as having agreed to the resettlement in Canada in 1949 of a Nazi collaborator from Czechoslovakia, Karol Sidor, after a direct appeal from Pope Pius XII. Mr. Sidor, previously commander in chief of the Hlinka Guard, a Slovakian stormtrooper unit, had been reassigned to the Vatican as the delegate of Nazi-occupied Slovakia. The study quotes a letter from the Apostolic delegate in Canada telling the Canadian authorities that Mr. Sidor ”cannot settle down anywhere in Europe without undergoing serious inconveniences and vexations.”
Mr. St. Laurent, who retired in 1957, was also depicted as having been ”personally involved” in communicating with purported Nazi war collaborators from Vichy France who settled in Quebec after being convicted in absentia in French courts. Mrs. Rodal said the St. Laurent Cabinet passed a special measure to allow four collaborators to remain in Canada as ”political refugees,” and that Mr. St. Laurent acted to persuade another man, Count Jacques de Bernonville, to flee Canada before he was deported to France. The significance of neo-Nazism in Ukraine and the at least tacit official U.S support or tolerance for it should be clearly understood:

Bush, when then Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko’s “Orange Revolution” began rehabilitating Ukraine’s wartime killers of Jews, and it grew under President Obama, who, along with Vice President Joseph Biden, were deeply complicit in the Maidan coup and what followed. Then too the American mainstream media scarcely noticed. Still worse, when a founder of a neo-Nazi party and now repackaged speaker of the Ukrainian parliament visited Washington in 2017, he was widely feted by leading American politicians, including Senator John McCain and Representative Paul Ryan. Arthur Derounian who wrote under the pen name, John Roy Carlson, was an Armenian-American investigative journalist and best-selling author. He became famous for his undercover reporting on the subversive activities of Nazis and Communists in the United States.
In 1948, he traveled by way of England to Egypt where he was granted permission to accompany the Arabs forces as they set off to fight the Jews in the Holy Land, in Palestine. His coverage of the war later became a memoir, Cairo to Damascus. It is a vivid, sometimes thrilling account of his experience that delves deeply into what the Arab world was like at the time and the nature of the Muslim dispute with the Jewish people and the active support Britain was giving to the Arabs to crush the Jews. It covers everything from the Muslim Brotherhood, Arab Nazi Haj Amin Al Husseini (whom he meets), ancient Cairo ghettos and Arab feudalism, British – Nazi – Arab collusion and even the prevalence Arab homosexuality and transgenderism. It’s quite the wild, riveting, mind-blowing read from an informed observer who is neither Jewish nor Arab, yet writes with compassion and understanding for both and a keen grasp of the historical and political context surrounding the conflict.
In a footnote on page 235 (copied below) Carlson addresses the “flight” of the Arab refugees, describing who they were, the real reasons they fled, and their number which, even then, he says, for the purposes of propaganda, was hugely inflated. Continue reading
