His humor, his fearless ability to mock, ridicule and insult — anyone and everyone — and the graciousness and laughter with which these offenses were received by his ‘victims’ seems almost remarkable today.    They loved him.

Perhaps, one day, his comedy will be viewed as evidence, ironically, of an advanced civilization that once (yes, past tense) embraced freedom of expression.
